Events
Project RISE will be hosting a series of events aimed at raising awareness about the challenges associated with coastal issues. These initiatives are designed to engage the public and foster a deeper understanding of the pressing concerns facing our coastal environments. There might be more events planned for the future!

01
1st Annual District 6 No-Cost Dumpster Day
On March 22nd, Project RISE will host an event where you can throw out your unwanted trash at the Mira Mesa High School Front Parking Lot on March 22nd, 2025, from 9 am to 12pm (or until the dumpsters are full!)

Around 300 cars showed up, unloading a total of 120,080 pounds of trash, which filled 10 dumpsters. Our team collaborated with Councilman Kent Lee and his staff to help organize the event.
02
School Environmental Festival
On March 26th, Project RISE will host an event at Mira Mesa High School featuring coastal experts, surfers, and bikers who will discuss strategies for enhancing coastal resilience and raising awareness about related challenges.

Anyone who signed the pledge to support the environment received a Robek's gift card from our team. Those who completed the survey were entered into a drawing for a chance to win a Better Buzz gift card. Additionally, we had A-bel Gong as a guest speaker and conducted experiments to demonstrate how coastal erosion works and School Board member Sabrina Bazzo and her daughter attended.

03
City Council Ocean Beach Community Meetings
The Ocean Beach Planning Board (OBPB) holds general meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. These meetings are open to the public and are held at the Ocean Beach Recreational Center, 4726 Santa Monica Avenue, San Diego, CA 92107. We are working to connect San Diego citizens with these meetings to further engagement and collaborative discussion surrounding coastal health.
04
Rolling Community Engagement Events
In order to advertise our events and inform people about the environment, we host rolling community engagement events on March 9th, 23rd, 30th, and April 5th. During these events, we travel to public spaces such as Balboa Park or La Jolla Shores and pass out fliers containing information about how individuals can help fight against rising sea levels.

City Council Meeting
On April 7th, our team will be presenting at the City Council meeting at 7 p.m., where we’ll be discussing the important issue of sea-level rise and its potential impact on our community. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to get involved and help shape the future of our city's policies. By attending, you can contribute your voice to the conversation and be part of the efforts to address climate change and protect our environment. We hope to see you there and encourage you to join us in making a meaningful difference for our city’s future.
